Mumbai candidates to make India proud at WorldSkills Competition, Abu Dhabi, 2017


 Candidates to compete against candidates from more than 70 countries across the globe

Wednesday, 27th September, 2017: Team India is all set to participate in the biggest exhibition of Skills at the WorldSkills Competition 2017, popularly known as “Skill Olympics” being organised in Abu Dhabi from 14th to 19th October 2017. 1200 competitors from 70+ member countries and regions would be participating across 51 skill competitions to prove their mettle in their field.

This year, among the 28 member strong Indian team, Simoul Alva would be competing in the Graphic design and Saurabh Gupta would contest in the Web designing category.

21-year-old Simoul Alva is a Graphic Design student from the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID), India. Her age belies her maturity. During her education at NID, Simoul dabbled with typography, illustration, motion design and used her creativity to lend voice to some of the most complex issues of the modern world. From creating an illustration led campaign on substance abuse to an experimental animation on wage gap, Simoul’s skills are eclectic and can range from subtle to nuanced to unorthodox. An awardee of the Ratan Tata Scholarship in 2015, she has also been recognised as one of the top 25-under-25 visual artists and designers of the country by GenX Tata Nano. She recently completed an exchange program at the ÉcoleSupérieured’Artet de Design de Reims, France.

Saurabh Gupta is currently pursuing his Bachelors in Information Technology from Acharaya College, Mumbai. His parents continue to inspire him to strive for excellence. As far as he can remember, he has been passionate about web development and looks forward to learning new technologies. His hobbies include playing cricket and volleyball. While undergoing an IT course from Aptech, Saurabh got the opportunity to participate in IndiaSkills 2016. After winning at the regional and the national rounds, he has been preparing for a big win at WorldSkills 2017, Abu Dhabi. He continues to participate in various competitions to gain confidence and equip himself for problem solving techniques with speed and accuracy.

NSDC had identified all the competitors through a series of competitions organized at regional and national levels over the past two years. Post which all the candidates have undergone extensive training with Industry partners, which has helped them improve their skills before the competition. A large number of candidates have also travelled overseas to get trained under the guidance of some of the best trainers and experts available internationally.
