Mumbai, 2017: As part of Ola’s ongoing virtual cricket initiative, Ola Partners League, hundreds of children participated in a day long selection process where over 50 children of the most promising cricketing talents were awarded scholarships to Cricket academies across seven cities in the country.
After a tough day of selections, deserving children of Ola driver partners were selected and handed over the scholarship certificates. The scholarship initiative is part of Ola’s ongoing virtual cricket initiative, Ola Partners League, which was launched on 24th April across 7 cities.
The trials were conducted by the coaches from the academy and lasted for nearly 4 hours. In addition to scholarships, the children have also been presented with a memento and certificates along with OPL jerseys and exclusive cricket kits. These scholarships will provide these children with an opportunity to further hone their skills and guide them in achieving their dream of making it big and playing for the country one day.
On winning the scholarship, 13 year old Dhairya Shah said, “Cricket has always been my passion. I play gully cricket regularly and I also captain my team against other localities. My dream though has always been to make big in the game of cricket and getting a scholarship at one of India’s leading cricket academies is the first step towards achieving my dream. I am very excited and looking forward to being coached by such senior players. I thank my parents and Ola for giving me this opportunity.”
Vishal Kaul, COO at Ola, said, “Cricket is more than just a game in India and there are millions who wish to make it to the big league. There is immense talent across the country and we want to play a role in encouraging the “cricket champions of tomorrow”. While Ola Partners League (OPL) is being played virtually by lakhs of our driver partners, we also wanted to engage with their families. Scholarships at cricket academies are an excellent opportunity for the children of our driver partners to transform their cricketing dreams into a reality. The initial response around OPL across the 7 cities has been very encouraging and we are expecting a similar response through this initiative as well. There is great anticipation across the organisation to see who these deserving kids will be and Ola is proud to play a significant role in creating such opportunities through OPL.”
